Thank you for your participation in the competitive golf programs offered by the Kansas Golf Association. In our state we are fortunate to have the support of our member golf clubs that allow us to use their great facilities. However, our programs would not be successful without your support. The KGA board of directors and staff send you our greetings and thanks!
Regardless of your age or golf skill, if you have played in KGA competitions in the past and are planning to do so again in 2008, there will be some important information for you in this memo.I encourage you to read through it at your convenience.
Entry fees. All program dues and entry fees for 2008 will remain at the 2007 levels with the exception of the Mid-Amateur Championship. The Mid-Amateur will be reduced to $120 (golf carts will be at the expense of the player).
First day for entries:For each of the KGA’s competitive programs the first day to enter (online or by mail or walk-in) is as follows:
No entry will be accepted prior to 9:00 a.m. on those dates.
Please note that the KGA office has moved to a new location in Lawrence if you are mailing or hand delivering your entry to the KGA office.Phone, fax, email remain unchanged. Our new address is:
Kansas Golf Association 1201 Wakarusa Drive, Suite B5 Lawrence, KS66049
Entry forms:Entry forms for all KGA competitive programs may be printed from the KGA’s website and mailed to the association office. Click here to download paper entry forms.Entries may also be done online with payment made with a credit card.Otherwise, call the KGA office to have an entry form mailed to you (785-842-4833).
Entry priority:It continues to be our policy for any KGA championship, a player or team (same two players) that has played in a KGA championship each of the last two years (2006 and 2007) shall be guaranteed a position in the field of that championship as long as their 2008 entry for that championship is received on for before March 1, 2008.Thereafter, entries will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
In the event that a championship has been fully subscribed, any subsequent entry received will be placed on a “wait list” and the entrant will be so notified. No entry fee will be charged until the entrant is placed in the field.
Electronic Measuring Distance devices:Our experience with these devices was again very positive in 2007.The players that used them found it helpful and they helped the pace of play to a small degree. The KGA will continue to allow the use of EMDs in 2008 for all but junior-only competitions. If you would like to get the best price available on a Bushnell Pinseeker (Tournament edition), go to www.rangefindergolf.com.
Player conduct:The KGA implemented a new player conduct policy in 2007.This policy was established to deal with serious breaches of etiquette and unbecoming conduct. The main element of this revised policy is the establishment of a “zero tolerance” for unacceptable behavior. As expected, the policy had very little application, the KGA board of directors wants everyone to understand that we are very serious about this and it expects every KGA contestant, regardless of age, to act as a sportsman and a gentleman at all times in dealing with fellow players, KGA staff and volunteers and personnel of our host member clubs. This policy will remain in place for 2008.
2008 Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship. The KGA board of directors has determined that it will cease using the two-course format for stroke play qualifying rounds of the Kansas Amateur. Therefore, the championship field for 2008 will be 135 golfers (however, ties at local qualifying could increase that number to 156).Local qualifying will be held at five sites throughout the state in order to determine the non-exempt participants. The exemption list can be found on the KGA website under the KGA Championships section. The 2008 site is Wichita Country Club and the date for the championship is July 14-20.
2008 KGA competition schedules:The sites and dates for the 2008 KGA championship schedule are available for viewing by clicking here. The KGA Senior Series schedule will be posted by February 1st.The Kansas Junior Golf Association sectional schedule will be posted by February 1st.
Kansas Four-Ball Championship. The 2008 Kansas Four-Ball Championship will have of significant change for this year. There will now be two separate divisions for this event (Open & Masters).
The Open division will be for teams of any age.The top 32 teams from stroke play qualifying will advance to a single elimination four-ball match play bracket.
The Masters division will be for teams that both members are age 40 & older. The top 16 teams in the Masters division will advance to a single elimination four-ball match play bracket. The Masters division will play a shorter set of tees than the Open division.
All teams will play one round of stroke play qualifying on each of the Alvamar golf courses. All matches (both divisions) will be held on Alvamar Golf Club (public course).
