The Railer, Kansas Stroke Play Championship

A new 54-hole weekend event made its debut on the KGA calendar in 2011. “The Railer” will be played annually at Sand Creek Station Golf Course (Newton, KS) and crown the Kansas Amateur Stroke Play Champion. Thanks to the cooperation of Chris Tuohey, the general manager at Sand Creek Station, the KGA is able to answer the call for a state stroke play champion. The event, featuring an Open and Senior Division, will be played on Friday through Sunday, June 22-24, 2012.  Cart is included for all rounds of the championship.

Kansas
Amateur
The 102nd Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship will be held at Sand Creek Station Golf Course, July 23-29. This will be the first time the Kansas Amateur has been played at Sand Creek Station and we expect this will be another outstanding championship. There will be four qualifying sites this year, but we will continue to offer the Second Chance Qualifier (at Alvamar on July 11th). Remember, golf carts are allowed (at the player’s expense) for all rounds of this championship, including match play. With fewer qualifying sites this year, you might consider getting your entry submitted well before the June 8 deadline so that you can play at the qualifying site of your choosing.

Kansas Four-Ball

The Kansas Four-Ball Championship enters its 24th year and will be a completely stroke play competition in 2012.  The format will be 54-holes of four-ball stroke play with two divisions (Open or Masters Division).  The Masters Division remains an option for “older” golfers this year.  Both players must be 30 or older and the team must select the Masters Division at the time of entry). Sycamore Ridge GC is a great golf course with significant versatility in set up and each hole has great risk-reward aspects. The entry fee has been decreased for 2012 with the format change, but carts are still included for all rounds of the championship.

KGA Senior Championships

Senior championships in 2012 will be played at Firekeeper Golf Course, Flint Hills National Golf Club and Manhattan Country Club.  Only one aspect has been changed in the competitive format: the Gross/Net Division has been modified to a strictly "Net" competition.  So, a golfer or team that wants to play but not in the Championship division, will have an opportunity to compete and win gift certificates with net scoring. The Super Senior division remains and our veteran golfers age 65 & older are encouraged to “keep swinging” in our competitions for seniors.  Super Senior age golfers that wish to play in the net competition will be put into the Net Division.

Mid-Amateur Team Championship

Shadow Glen Golf Club (Olathe, KS) is an outstanding venue for this season-closing championship. If you have never had the opportunity to experience a round of golf at Shadow Glen, do not miss this championship!  The 2012 entry fee has been reduced and a cart is still included for all rounds of the 54-hole championship. A word to the wise – don’t wait until September to enter because you might not get one of the 96 spots available!

KGA Senior Series

Commissioner Dick Kendrick has assembled another attractive line-up of venues for the 2012 KGA Senior Series. Shoal Creek Golf Course and Tiffany Greens Golf Club in the Kansas City metro make their debut on the KGA Senior Series calendar in 2012.  17 events will again be offered in 2012 at many familiar and outstanding KGA member clubs.  Players are encouraged to enter as many of the one-day competitions as you choose while competing for gross and net prizes in five age divisions (50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over).

KGA Mid-Amateur Series

If it is hard for you to get away from the office for multiple day tournaments, the KGA Mid-Amateur Series is a great option!  Open to golfers age 25 to 49, the KGA Mid-Amateur Series are one-day events played in conjunction with the popular KGA Senior Series program.  The Mid-Amateur Series schedule has been expanded for 2012 and is great opportunity for the mid-am age golfer to play some of the best courses in Kansas in a tournament atmosphere.

Kansas
Junior Golf Association
This competitive summer program for boys and girls divides the state of Kansas into six sections and offers up to four regional events prior to a state championship. This year’s Junior Section Team Championship will be held at Emporia Municipal Golf Course on July 16-18. The 2012 KJGA schedule and entry forms will be posted on approximately February 1st. Entries begin on March 1st and entrants are encouraged to enroll early to avoid being wait-listed. For a complete description of the program, go to the KGA website and click on the KJGA-Junior Golf tab.

Sunflower Girls Junior Amateur
returns for second year
In answering the call for more competitive opportunities for junior girl golfers in Kansas, the KGA debuted the Sunflower Girls Junior Amateur in 2011. The 36-hole girls only championship will return in 2012 and will be hosted by Emporia Municipal Golf Course on August 4-5 (Saturday & Sunday).
