Brittany Bange - Colby (Ft. Hays St. University)
Brittany came late to golf, but made varsity and qualified for state in her first year. She credits golf with giving her self-confidence, focus and communication skills, which cam in handy - she participated in five other sports, was president of nearly every organization she joined, and graduated No. 1 in her class. Brittany will attend Ft. Hays State University to study graphic design.
Trey Herman -Hays (Ft. Hays St. University)
Trey picked up his father's driver at age 3 and fell in love. Over the coming years Trey says "golf trasformed me from a child into a gentleman." His team played in the state championship three times and was a KJGA Section Team player who excelled in the classroom, maintaining a 4.0 GPA and graduation at the top of his class. At Ft. Hays State University, Trey hopes to play golf and major in Chemistry before heading to medical school.
Jake Morrison - Yates Center (Allen County CC)
Jake has success as a golfer - twice finishing third at the state championship - but he values most what golf has taught him about honesty, competitiveness and interacting with people of all ages and gender. In addition to playing on his varsity team, Jake was the student manager for this high school's girls golf team, served as a fourth grade teachers aide, and maintained a 4.0 GPA. Jake will attend Allen County Community College and hopes to finish at the University of Kansas, studying Physical Therapy and Exercise Science.
Caleb Newsom - Sedgwick (Wichita State University)
Golf has taught Caleb that "your life is determined by you." Starting at the Wichita Junior Golf Foundation program, he progressed to helping his high school team reach the state tournament, where he relished the opportunity to represent his school. A multi-sport athlete, Caleb was class president and served as a mentor for younger golfers at his local junior golf program. At Wichita State, Caleb is determined to study Biology, eventually applying to medical school with a goal of opening a family medical practice.
Amy Weilert - Chanute (Ottawa University)
While she was rehabbing a torn ACL that ended her basketball, volleyball and track careers, Amy's school started a golf program and she got permission from her surgeon to try out. She played with her team at the state tournament - using only a putter and irons, and riding in a cart - and the next year she led her team to third place at state. Amy was able to manage golf and numerous community service activities and graduate No. 1 in her class. She'll study Biology at Ottawa University and hopes to go to medical school.
