2007 Kansas Junior Golf Scholars

Cameron Buck - Edwardsville (Univ. of Kansas)

“Golf taught me that integrity, hard work and the willingness to learn will help you succeed in life,” says Cameron. From The First Tee in Kansas City, to Team Captain of the Bonner Springs High School varsity, to the state high school tournament, Cameron is using what he has learned from golf. Cameron will attend the University of Kansas, and hopes to become a prosecutor.

Jennifer Clark - Kansas CityJennifer Clark – Kansas City (Univ. of Kansas)

Jennifer is one of the state’s most accomplished and celebrated junior players in recent memory: high school All American, Midwest Section PGA Junior Girl Golfer of the year, Kenneth Smith Golf Award, two-time state champion.  She found time to be an outstanding student, as well, making Honor Roll every semester and National Honor Society.  She will study Graphic Design in the School of Fine Arts at the University of Kansas.

Michelle Estes - CaneyMichelle Estes – Caney (Kansas State Univ.)

Michelle plans to study veterinarian medicine at Kansas State University.  Golf taught her to be “responsible, efficient and hardworking”, and it shows.  In high school, she was involved in numerous clubs, activities and community service, played volleyball and golf, and graduated first in her class with a 4.0 GPA.

Matthew Hall - SabethaMatthew Hall – Sabetha (Washburn Univ.)

Through golf, Matt has learned the values of hard work and  “setting the highest expectations” for himself.   He applied those values in athletics (quarterback, basketball captain and varsity golfer), and by taking leadership roles at school, in his church and community. Matt also maintained a 4.0 GPA, graduating first in his class.  He will attend Washburn University and plans to become an athletic trainer or sports manager.

Alexa Heier - Bunker HillAlexa Heier – Bunker Hill (Univ. of Kansas)

Alexa chose golf as a freshman because it was what she wanted to do, not what her friends were doing.  She persevered as a sophomore and junior, when she could only compete as an individual because the team had only three girls.  During her senior year, Russell High School had a full team and Alexa earned a berth in the state tournament.  Staying with golf for four years, Alexa learned that “determination is what it takes to be successful”.  She will major in Pharmacy at the University of Kansas and plans to open her own pharmacy someday.
