2010 Kansas Junior Golf Scholars

Kenzi Knobbe – Sharon Springs

Kenzi is headed to Kansas State University to obtain dual degrees in Kinesiology and Nutrition, and hopes to be a personal trainer.  A four-sport athlete at Wallace County High School, Kenzi was a member of the men’s varsity golf team where, according to the coach, “she would push her teammates to work to improve”.  Kenzi held about every leadership position in school and 4-H, graduated with a 4.0 GPA, earning Valedictorian honors.

Melissa Kupfersmith – Valley Center

Missy was two-year captain of her golf team, mentoring younger players and teaching them what she has learned from golf – “the importance of honesty, sportsmanship, patience and dedication”.  She will put those lifeskills to good use as she enrolls in the Honors Program at Kansas State University to major in Philosophy of Medicine and Biology.  Her goal is to attend dental school and either become an orthodontist or work at a major university in dentistry research.

Leslie Queen – Lawrence

As a member of the Lawrence High Varsity team, Leslie made new friends through golf, developed leadership skills, and found that going the practice range was a stress reliever!  As a result, golf will be a lifetime sport for Leslie, something that can play a role from “business deals to family time”.  She was also varsity soccer player, a leader in 4-H, and student body President. Leslie will attend the University of Kansas and will pursue a career in either education or medicine.

Aspen Ulrich – Sylvan Grove

Aspen’s high school didn’t have a golf team – until she asked the School Board to form one.  The Board agreed, whereupon Aspen found that she’d have to compete with 10 boys for a spot on the team!  She persevered, with self-imposed practice drills and conditioning when she found herself complaining, and became a leader on the team.  Aspen will major in Business at McPherson College and hopes to become a Certified Public Accountant.

Adam Zuzelski – Syracuse

“Golf has taught me to care for others”, says Adam. What he learned has been put the good use, as Adam tutored struggling fellow students at his school and taught golf to younger golfers in the Syracuse Junior Golf Program. He also devoted himself to academics, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA and co-valedictorian honors (with his twin brother).  After two years at Dodge City Community College, Adam will head to the University of Kansas with a goal of going to medical school.
