2018 Playoff Information


Eagle Bend Golf Course - 2017 Kansas Cup Champions


QUARTERFINAL ROUND

The winner of each of the seven divisions plus one (1) “wildcard” team with comprise the eight teams that will qualify for the 2018 Kansas Cup Playoffs.  The Quarterfinal Round matches and host courses is detailed below.  Tie breaking procedures to determine playoff qualifiers is detailed below.  The Quarterfinal Round playoff matches must be played by September 14th.

Note: Regular season divisional matches that end in a 4.5 to 4.5 point tie will count as a half point win when calculating total wins when breaking ties for playoff qualification to determine division winners, the wildcard playoff team qualifier and playoff bracket seeding.


BREAKING TIES FOR DIVISION WINNERS:

The team with the most overall wins (including ties) will be the division winner.  If two teams in a division end up the regular season with the same number of division wins (including ties which count for a 1/2 point match win), the tie shall be broken based on the following criteria, in order of their application:

  1. Head-to-head division wins between the tied teams.  If teams split divisional matches;
  2. The team with the largest number of points earned in its divisional matches.  If still tied,
  3. The team with the largest number of singles points earned in its division matches.  If still tied,
  4. Lot


BREAKING TIES FOR PLAYOFF “WILDCARD” TEAM:

To determine the one (1) “wildcard” team that will advance to the playoffs, the “wildcard” team will be determined based on the following criteria, in order of their application:

  1. The team that is not a division winner with the most overall wins (including match ties which count as a 1/2 point match win) in divisional play will advance to the playoffs as the wildcard team.  If still tied;
  2. The team with the largest number of points earned in its divisional matches.  If still tied;
  3. The team with the largest number of singles points earned in its divisional matches.  If still tied;
  4. Lot


DETERMINING SEEDS FOR PLAYOFF QUARTERFINAL BRACKET:

All teams in the playoffs shall be seeded, but in no event shall the “wildcard” team be seeded higher than a division winner.  The “wildcard” team will be the #8 seed in the playoff quarterfinal match bracket.  Teams will be seeded based on the following criteria, in order of their application:

  1. Largest number of division wins (including match ties which count as 1/2 point match win).  If still tied,
  2. Largest number of points earned in its divisional matches.  If still tied,
  3. Largest number of singles points earned in its division matches.  If still tied,
  4. Lot

DETERMINING HOST VENUE FOR PLAYOFF QUARTERFINAL ROUND:

Division winners will be bracketed and seeded #1 through #7 with the playoff quarterfinal match being hosted by the team with the better seed.  The “wildcard” team will be the #8 seed in the playoff quarterfinal match bracket. 

Quarterfinal #1 - Firekeeper GC (1) def. Manhattan CC (8) - 4.5 to 4.5 (2 to 1 in sudden death)

Quarterfinal #2 - GreatLife-Salina (4) def. Crestwood CC (5) - 6.5 to 2.5

Quarterfinal #3 - Eagle Bend GC (2) def. Emporia GC (7) - 7 to 2

Quarterfinal #4 - Salina CC (3) def. Crestview CC (6) - 6 to 3

SEMIFINAL ROUND

The four quarterfinal winners will advance to the "final four weekend" championship matches at Emporia Golf Course on Friday, September 21
, 2018.  Starting times will begin at 9:00 am and end at 11:30 am.  The starting times between the two semifinal matches will be interweaved.

9:00 am – Open Modified Chapman Match from semifinal match #1 
9:10 am - Open Modified Chapman Match from semifinal match #2 
9:20 am – Senior Modified Chapman Match from semifinal match #1 
9:30 am - Senior Modified Chapman Match from semifinal match #2 
9:40 am - Professional/Amateur Four-Ball Match from semifinal match #1 
9:50 am - Professional/Amateur Four-Ball Match from semifinal match #2
10:00 am - Net Open Four-Ball Match from semifinal match #1 
10:10 am - Net Open Four-Ball Match from semifinal match #2 
10:20 am - Net Senior Four-Ball Match from semifinal match #1

COOKOUT

Following completion of the semifinal matches on Friday, September 21st, a buffet cookout with beverages will be provided to all contestants.  Menu will include fried chicken, brisket and sides from Olpe Chicken House.

 

FINAL ROUND

The two clubs advancing to the championship round of the Kansas Cup shall compete for the title at Emporia Golf Course on Saturday, September 22, 2018.  Starting times will begin at 9:00 am.

Trophy presentation and team photos following the completion of the final match at the course for both teams that advance to the Kansas Cup Finals.


PLAYOFF MATCH TIED AFTER COMPLETION OF INDIVIDUAL MATCHES (IN PLAYOFFS ONLY):


In the event of a 4.5-point to 4.5-point tie at the conclusion of the nine matches, a playoff shall be conducted according to the following procedures and matches involved:

The Open (non-Senior) Singles Match players, the Senior Modified Chapman Match teams, and the Open Four-Ball Match teams.  There will then be three matches played, each at sudden death starting from hole #1.  This means there will be three points at stake in sudden death.  The team that wins two points shall win the match.  Note: all three sudden death matches must be contested against the same opponent.  In the interest of time and as a convenience to the players involved, the sudden-death points may be contested prior to the conclusion of the remaining matches.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY IN PLAYOFFS:

When a club qualifies for the 2018 Kansas Cup playoffs, it must use only club members that had previously played in at least one 2018 Kansas Cup match (during the home-and-home divisional play).  This rule does not apply to golf professionals that work at club's participating in Kansas Cup.  Note: Players that were scheduled to play in a forfeited match are eligible for playoffs.
