PGA Tour’s web.com Tour Makes Stop in Overland Park

Midwest Classic Presented by Cadillac at Nicklaus Golf Club July 15-21

OVERLAND PARK, KS — The Midwest Classic presented by Cadillac—one of only 25 Web.com Tour stops this season—will be played at the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park the week of July 15 – 21, spotlighting some of the finest professional golfers in the world.

The Web.com Tour is the path to the PGA TOUR and the Midwest Classic is just one of only 25 tournaments that will provide the main avenue for professional golfers to earn their right to compete on golf’s ultimate stage.  All 50 PGA TOUR cards for the 2014 season will come through the Web.com Tour this season and the Kansas City tournament is a pivotal battleground as the Tour heads into the second half of its season toward a four-tournament playoff.

The tournament enters its third year under the direction of the Kansas City Crusaders.  The Crusaders, founded in 2008 as a not-for-profit organization, are a group of individual business leaders in the community with the collective goal of supporting Kansas City area businesses and charities through the promotion of professional golf.

The highlight of the weeklong event will feature 156 professional golfers competing in the 72-hole Web.com Tour tournament that begins on Thursday, July 18, and wraps up the Final Round on Sunday, July 21.  Tickets, priced at $25 for the week, are available through the tournament website:  www.midwestclassic.com.  Daily tickets for $10 can be purchased at the gate.  Children under 14 years of age are admitted free.  Free parking with shuttle service is available nearby at 135th and Metcalf and Nall.

There are plenty of activities planned for early in the week at the Nicklaus Golf Club site, located at 143rd and Dearborn in Overland Park.  Two of the early week events are a free junior golf clinic for area youngsters, scheduled for Monday evening at five o’clock with Web.com Tour players, and a golf shot exhibition by Nationally renowned golf entertainer Ben Witter on Tuesday evening at 5:30.  The First Tee of Greater Kansas City also will be on hand both of those days for a free Family Fun Golf Skills event.  Pro-Am events with Web.com Tour players will take place on Monday and Wednesday.

“This is Kansas City’s only chance to see some of the world’s finest professional golfers,” said Don Hall, Tournament Director for the Midwest Classic presented by Cadillac.  “We are pleased to bring professional golf to the area.”

Children’s Mercy Hospitals & Clinics is the primary beneficiary of the tournament proceeds and more than 50 additional area charities will benefit through the tournament’s unique Tickets Fore Charity program.  Check out the Midwest Classic web site for more detailed information at www.midwestclassic.com.
