Time to get Your Game on the Calendar!

The Kansas Golf Association has an outstanding 2014 championship schedule ready and Kansas golfers regardless of age will find multiple opportunities to test their gross and net golf skills against a great group of competitors.

Starting February 1st, entrants can secure their spot in the field of all KGA championships by logging into www.kansasgolf.org and clicking on the Championships tab.  Follow the directions and get entered.  For assistance, contact the KGA office.

New for 2014 is playing the annual KGA Mid-Amateur Championship on the weekend.  In the past with a Monday/Tuesday setting, many mid-amateurs found it difficult to miss work or travel overnight from home.  Eagle Bend Golf Course in Lawrence has agreed to give our mid-amateurs a weekend championship on May 3-4.  If you haven’t played Eagle Bend in the last few years you will be impressed with their conversion to zoysia grass fairways and some of the best conditioned putting greens in Kansas.

Following the same logic, the Kansas Four-Ball at Alvamar Golf Course has been moved back slightly on the calendar so that match play is conducted on the weekend as well.  The new date is June 5-8.  Both the Open and the Masters divisions will be offered.

The Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship will be at Mission Hills Country Club, showcasing a renovated golf course with new routings and holes.  The golf course will be a very good test of our state’s best amateur golfers.  There will be five qualifying sites along with the Second Chance qualifier.  Early entrants can assure themselves of the qualifying site they desire.

Sand Creek Station Golf Course will again host The Railer, Kansas Amateur Stroke Play Championship, but the date will be slightly earlier on the calendar in order to give a few more days of separation from The Railer and the US Amateur Public Links Championship that will be held there the second week of July.  The Railer will be June 20-22.

A word to the wise, if you want to play in the 2014 High Plains Amateur Championship at The Golf Club at Southwind you should consider entered early in order to be assured of a spot in the field.  This event has been sold out the last two years as Kansas and area golfers have made this a major event on the KGA calendar.

The KGA Senior Series and the KGA Mid-Amateur Series will begin accepting 2014 members and event entries on February 1st.   Also, enrollment and entries for the 2014 Kansas Junior Golf Association program will begin on March 1st.

For all KGA competitions, entry is best done online at www.kansasgolf.org, but paper entry forms are available for printing at the KGA website and they may be hand-delivered or mailed.
