Kansas Golf Hall of Fame Seeks Nominations for 2014 Hall of Fame

2014 is an induction year for the Kansas Golf Hall of Fame, which honors men and women who have made outstanding contributions to the game of golf or who are distinguished by their outstanding accomplishments as players.  Notable members of the Hall of Fame include Tom Watson, Jim Colbert, Tom Devlin and Judy Bell.  Inductions are held only in even-numbered years, with induction ceremonies usually held in the fall.

“Anyone may nominate a candidate”, said Phil Miller, KGF Executive Director, “and we always are looking for nominations.”  The HOF nomination form may be downloaded from the KGA website by clicking here. Nominations, which must include all supporting materials, are due not later than April 4, 2014. Inductees will be announced early in the summer.

Golf in Schools for Thousands of Kansas Students

Can you imagine every student in Kansas having the chance to learn golf?  That’s the goal of the new Golf in Schools initiative of the Kansas Golf Foundation. “Our goal is to introduce the game of golf to every student in Kansas,” says Jeff Burey, Kansas Golf Foundation Trustee “and students from K-12 are already participating from Kansas City to Scott City.”

Golf in Schools uses SNAG (Starting New At Golf) equipment and curriculum. SNAG is a new method of teaching golf that makes it fun and rewarding for kids (and grownups) to learn the game. Burey, a Certified SNAG Trainer, provides instruction for PE teachers, coaches and other school district personnel who then teach the game to students.  As of the end of January, Burey was working with more than 20 school districts throughout the state, and he expects the number to grow rapidly.

Golf in Schools is a joint initiative of Kansas Golf Foundation and the Midwest PGA Section Foundation.  Burey heads the program and is assisted by KGF Trustee Tony Gogel. Funding for the program comes from donations to KGF that are dedicated for purchase of SNAG equipment.  For more information, contact KGF Executive Director Phil Miller (phil@kansasgolf.org).
