Woodland Watch

Topeka native and Lawrence resident Gary Woodland is having a great year on the PGA Tour.  With four top 20 finishes since the first of the year, including a tie for 8th at the Valspar Championship (site of his first PGA Tour win in 2011), Gary heads into his third appearance at The Masters next month with total season earnings putting him comfortably in the top 20 along with a world ranking in the top 50.

For Kansans who know Gary, no one is surprised that his talent and personality have taken him on a great journey in professional golf.  It was announced recently that Gary will team with good friend Matt Kuchar (and a third player to be announced) to represent the USA in the Inaugural Canada Cup.   This “bragging rights” competition will be held at Ashburn Golf Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Monday, June 30th.   The Canada team will be Mike Weir, Graham DeLaet and David Hearn.   Canadian spectators will have a great time watching Gary drive with power, approach with accuracy and putt for the win!

If you are not going to be in Nova Scotia in late June, you might make a quick trip down to Owasso, Oklahoma (just outside Tulsa) and attend The Patriot Cup at The Patriot Golf Club.  On Memorial Day, May 26th, the Folds of Honor Foundation and its founder Dan Rooney are bringing in another great group of PGA Tour players and other celebrities for a day of friendly competition.  Gary Woodland will be there along with notables like Rickie Fowler and maybe David Feherty.   For more information, go to www.foldsofhonor.org.
