2016 Champions Are Still Teenagers – Except One!

If records were kept on this sort of outcome, 2016 would be a record year.  The KGA conducts four “open” individual championships each year, meaning that junior and seniors and everything in between are allowed to enter and compete.   Three of those championships were won by teenagers!  The one non-teenager was Tim McKinnis who won The Railer, a 54-hole event at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.  McKinnis is a Kansas senior golfer and 51 years old.

Grant Herrenbruck of Salina started the junior parade by winning the Konza Prairie Amateur at Colbert Hills in early June.  He’s 16 years old.   Blake Allen, age 18, rolled to win the Kansas Amateur Match Play at Southwind in late July .  Now Sion Audrain wins the High Plains Amateur before he’s old enough to drive.

In each of those three events, the kids beat several older veteran amateur players.  It’s no fluke – the state of junior golf in Kansas is very strong!
