Team Kansas at USGA State Team Championship

A trio of top Kansas amateur golfers represented the State recently at the US State Team Championship conducted by the USGA at the Country Club of Birmingham in Alabama.  This national team event is played in even numbered years and it is the title won by Kansas in 2010.

Tim McKinnis of Lyons and Bradley Lane of Lawrence were joined at the last minute by Max Lazzo of Wichita.  Spencer Christian of Wichita traveled to Birmingham and was able to play a few practice round holes before being summoned back to Wichita because of a family medical emergency.  With the permission of the USGA, Kansas was able to recruit Lazzo to book a last-minute flight to Alabama and substitute Max for Spencer.

Team Kansas played two rounds and missed the cut for the low 21 teams for the third and final round.  The championship was won by Michigan, that state’s first title.

Despite the disappointment of missing the cut, the Kansas players all agreed that the experience was incredible.   Local hospitality and the host venue were outstanding.  This national championship has become one of the best offered by the USGA and is something for which top amateur golfers aspire.

Thanks Tim, Bradley, Max and Spencer for being great ambassadors for Kansas.
