Fall Champions Crowned in KGA Events

Salina Country Club Wins 2018 Kansas Cup

Salina Country Club defeated GreatLife-Salina on September 22nd in an exciting finish to the 2018 Kansas Cup season.  The final match, hosted at Emporia Golf Course, found both Salina clubs tied at 4.5 points each after all matches were completed.  In sudden death, Salina CC secured two of three playoff match points to secure the club's fourth Kansas Cup title.

In Semifinal action at Emporia Golf Course on September 21st, #4 seed GreatLife-Salina bested top seed Firekeeper Golf Course by a 5 to 4 margin.  In the second Semifinal, #3 seed Salina Country Club edged defending champion Eagle Bend Golf Course, 5 to 4.

Thank you to the 28 KGA member clubs that participated in the season long Kansas Cup competition!

Chamberlin & Richter Win KGA Senior Series Titles

Wichita's Tracy Chamberlin rallied to win the 2018 KGA Senior Series Championship on September 25th at Topeka Country Club.  Chamberlin started the day four shots off the lead, but emerged after posting a final round even par 71 to finish at 4-over par 146.  Chamberlin edged fellow Wichitan Michael Casasmento by one shot.  Salina's Greg Goode and Olathe's Pete Robbins finished in a tie for third.

In the Super Senior Division, Overland Park's Gary Richter claimed another KGA championship.  Richter posted 76-73 to finish at 8-over par 149 total to cruise to a three shot win.  Westwood's Michael Carey finished in second at 10-over par 152 total.  Prairie Village's Frank Roth finished third at 12-over par 154 total.

Jack Courington Wins Mid-Amateur Championship

Wichita's Jack Courington led wire to wire to win the 30th KGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Crestview Country Club on October 16th.  Courington posted an even par 72 in round two to finish at 4-under par 140 total.  Past Kansas Amateur champion and Crestview Country Club member Corey Novascone finished in second at 3-under par 141 total.  Lawrence's Kit Grove took third and Wichita's Tyler Chapman finished in fourth.  Goddard's Elliot Soyez, Wichita's Spencer Christian and Lawrence's Bradley Lane tied for fifth place.

Kansas Wins Ozark Senior Challenge
Missouri Wins Association Senior Cup

Team Kansas won the 2018 Ozark Senior Challenge on October 18th at Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield, MO.  Team Kansas led 7 to 5 over Missouri after the day one Four-Ball and Foursomes matches.  During the Singles matches on day two, 5.5 of the available 12 matches to clinch the victory by a slim 12.5 to 11.5 total.  Congrats to Team Kansas!

In the Association Senior Cup, the Missouri team was victorious over the squad from Kansas by a 8.5 to 3.5 final score.  Missouri again bested Kansas in the second day Singles matches by earning 3.5 of the 6 available points. Missouri took all three points in the morning sweep of the day one Four-ball matches.  In the afternoon Foursomes matches, Kansas earned one of the three available points.  Congrats to Team Missouri on the victory.

The two senior cup competitions are a Ryder Cup style match play competition between the Kansas Golf Association and Missouri Golf Association.  A 12-person team represents each association in the Ozark Senior Challenge and 6-person teams represent each association in the Association Senior Cup competition.  Players qualify for the annual competitions based on their performance in each association's Senior Series program.
